Town of Varick Votes to support Seneca Meadows Expansion Plan

“Benjamin, when asked if other town or village boards in the county have passed similar motions of support for the SMI expansion, said all 10 of the county’s town boards will be asked to pass similar resolutions.”

SLG Responds:
“It is disappointing that the Varick Town Board has been influenced by a multi-billion dollar corporation’s greed and decided to go against the needs of their town and our state to pass a resolution in favor of a dump,” said Yvonne Taylor, Co-Founder of Seneca Lake Guardian. “However, eight municipalities and two county governments have passed resolutions against the Seneca Meadows Landfill expansion, and over 400 public officials and business owners throughout the Finger Lakes, 24 regional and national organizations, and 40 State Senators and elected officials have signed letters of opposition to the landfill. This is just a drop in the bucket – New Yorkers across the state are vehemently against the proposed expansion of the landfill and we will continue to fight for our right to a clean, healthful environment for all. The Department of Environmental Conservation should absolutely not consider this resolution as a reflection of what New York wants with its biggest landfill – Seneca Meadows must be permanently closed once and for all.”
