.) The Times Union (Albany) Editorial Board has come out to support us! See their opinion piece here: Times Union Editorial Board supports Crypto Mining Moratorium! “New York should not keep enabling this, even in a small way, all so that a few folks can make money off of an exotic currency that most people don’t understand and will probably never use.”
.) Seneca Lake Guardian worked with the Sabin Center at Columbia Law School to receive an independent White Paper which outlines how Governor Hochul can deny Greenidge's permit and adopt a moratorium on crypto mining (Bitcoin). In fact, if she doesn't, and is challenged, the paper states that NY would be in a weak legal position to defend itself and would find itself in conflict with its own climate law. SLG had a press conference with the author of the paper Monday, and lots of press was there. Coverage of the Sabin Center White Paper.
.) Seneca Lake Guardian and FLX community members went by bus to the state capitol on Wednesday, where we were met by state lawmakers, statewide environmental groups, health care professionals and scientists who stood together in the War Room for a press conference urging Hochul to deny Greenidge's permit and adopt a moratorium on proof of work crypto mining. Thanks to all who committed their day to making this a tremendously successful event.
.) Our FLX Champion Assemblymember Dr. Anna Kelles's bill which would impose a moratorium on crypto mining's use of fossil fuel plants and initiate a full Environmental Impact Study on the industry is making headway! CALL YOUR ASSEMBLYMEMBERS AND STATE SENATORS! URGE THEM TO SUPPORT THESE BILLS!
Assembly bill A7389C is sponsored by Assemblywoman Anna Kelles. The Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee approved advancing the bill to the Assembly Ways and Means Committee by a vote of 23 to 7. A companion bill, S6486D is in the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee.
.) Stay tuned next week for more exciting and important updates, including the launching of a major national campaign...
