Only 6 Days Left to Comment to DEC on Greenidge!

We've only got 6 days left to let the DEC know where we stand on the Greenidge gas-fired Bitcoin facility.

In the Finger Lakes, we worry about how this facility gels with our thriving agricultural and tourism-related economy.  We worry about the impacts of air emissions on crops, particularly grapes.  We worry about how the large amounts of water withdrawal and thermal pollution will impact Seneca Lake.

But this is not just about the Finger Lakes.  Greenidge is a precedent-setting test case for this relatively new, little understood industry.  How the DEC rules on this power plant in the heart of the FLX will determine the fate of other power plants across the state.

Bitcoin, a virtual currency that uses a "Proof of Work" model to make money, has been outright banned in China because it uses so much energy it takes electricity away from the public and undermines its climate goals. Miners are moving quickly into our state, where there is currently no regulation on the industry.  Burning more fossil fuels in the middle of a climate crisis for private financial gain is the wrong direction for the Finger Lakes, and the wrong direction for New York. We've got 6 days to send our message loud and clear: New York wants clean air and water, and a livable planet to leave our children.
