Great Opportunity to support SLG and More!

Dear Friends,

We have great news! A generous anonymous donor has offered to match your tax-deductible donation, dollar for dollar, up to $20,000!

Seneca Lake Guardian has been working diligently on the local, state, national and international level to educate the public not only about the Bitcoin mining facility along Seneca Lake, but also on how this energy intensive, climate busting industry is poised to sweep across New York and the USA, undermining all of our bold climate initiatives. Greenidge, if permitted to continue and expand, could jeopardize Seneca's lake water, our air, and our thriving agri-tourism based economy. For more information on this threat, please click here.

The Greenidge facility in the heart of the Finger Lakes is the test case for how the rest of New York's old or retired fossil fuel plants will fall. It's not an outlier- it is the new business model that Bitcoin operators are seeking to rapidly replicate. We must nip this harmful, polluting industry in the bud by convincing Governor Cuomo's Department of Environmental Conservation that they should deny Greenidge's Title V Air Permit Renewal. This may require legal action, and we know that can cost money.

In anticipation of this fight, our generous anonymous donor has stepped up to support our efforts by starting this matching donor campaign. Please help us in this fight by taking advantage of this offer and in effect doubling your donation today.

But our efforts do not stop there: we recently worked with other statewide organizations to get legislation passed that would inform communities about the forever chemical PFAS levels in their drinking water, worked with renowned environmental law firm Earthjustice and submitted a comment to the DEC urging them to step up remediation of Cayuga Lake's water, and we continue to fight a proposed waste transfer facility in Schuyler County.

Together, we have worked hard in the Finger Lakes to win significant David and Goliath fights in the past, and as a community, we have won- time after time. We've fought off a multi-billion dollar oil and gas corporation that wanted to store gas in salt caverns. We've fought off and protected the region from a polluting garbage incineration facility. And despite these efforts, Seneca Lake and the Finger Lakes remain in peril. Bitcoin could be our biggest fight yet, but we can, we must, do this.

With your help, we know that we can continue to protect our lakes and way of life. Please make your donation, in whatever amount you can, and it will be doubled, thanks to our matching grant donor.

Thank you. Our gratitude runs as deep as Lake Seneca itself.
